Lets evaluate!! Part 7

Who would distribute my media product and why?

Well because I am a unknown director with an unknown cast and a very low budget there is no way a big cinema would ever be showcasing my product because it just doesn't have any of those thing which all the major films at the moment have. For example it isn't shot in HD and the set is all inside my own house. I also made it with the idea in mind of making people think and challenging the view points they have on things. This could make it quite controversial so this makes it even less likely for them to showcase the film as they wouldn't want to offend people. Most people that go to watch a film also don't want to have to watch something that makes them think about what they are doing in their own life and because that the big cinemas such as odeon attract these people they are less likely to show it.

However smaller cinemas such as "cinema city" are more likely to show case my film as they show more controversial and smaller films made on a lower budget. Their customers are more willing to see something that makes them think about their lives and that challenges the way they think. This makes them more likely to show it.

Lovefilm is a company that post people films to watch and will post another off their wish list when they return the one they have at a monthly charge. Lovefilm has a huge range of films, going from the big Hollywood hits to small films that never made it to the big screen. Because they have as many films as they can to try to please their customers it is possible they would distribute mine.

I could also use youtube because anyone can upload whatever videos they choose to do. Youtube is a media institution but unless I become a partner I won't make any money from my film.

Lets Evaluate!! Part 6

How does my media product challenge the conventions of conventional media?

Well my product challenges it in a lot of ways, these are:

  • 13 year old girl as a main role, usually these are older males in the main roles
  • Different editing style, with the short clips quickly followed by the long clips
  • Using the extreme levels of contrast and low brightness in the shots when the music starts playing isn't usually used in mainstream films
  • Using sound that at the start seems to be non-diegetic but turns out to be diegetic (tap dripping noise and the start). This is rarely used in a film but I like it as I think that it raises tension until you realise it is diegetic sound and then lowers tension
  • Using a quote is rarely used but I think this worked well and it connotes that their is a lot to come
It however does use some of them though:
  • it is set in a middle class western world home, if I could have used a different location I would have but it wasn't feasible for me to travel to another country
  • starts with establishing shots that draw the audience in and lets them know where they are in the film. It is also a good chance for them to take in the mise en scene to understand what the film could be like and what the characters are like
  • The girl in it is dressed as a typical 13 year old girl and the rest of the house fulfills all the stereo types of a middle class western house

Lets evaluate!!!!! Part 5

What have I learnt about technologies from the process of constructing my product?

I started this with a bit of knowledge about "pinnacle" editing software which is similar to premier pro only less powerful. Other than that I had little knowledge of editing software and different camera types.

While creating my film opening I learnt a lot about adobe after effects, which I used to create my company
ident, telletubies sequence and recreations of Saul Bass' works. I learnt about how to use shape, solid and text layers and how to create 3D text to make it seem like it's coming from behind you and is more professional.

I also learnt how to edit with premier pro. I learnt different ways of editing to create different moods, such as short clips can increase the pace which I used when plugging the ipod in or walking through the bedroom door in my piece.

I also learnt that Youtube not only has silly videos on for me to laugh at when I'm bored but it also is a great place to find tutorials to help with learning how to edit or to upload by own videos for the world to see.

This website itself (blogger) is a good website for posting text or videos as well, however I have found it difficult to get the pictures to be where I want them which can get very frustrating so when doing something like this again I would prefer to use different website.

The actual camera and equipment I used was all very new to me. When doing the opening shots of different rooms for my piece I used a tripod to keep the camera steady which I thought was much better than doing it by hand. Also the computers we were using the edit couldn't seem to cope with the difficulty of the editing so it became very difficult to edit as they were very slow. I just had to try to work around this but it made it very difficult so in the future I would be sure to try to use a very high standard computer
